The original CTS pots all date to 1979.Ĭosmetically, this guitar retains its original alpine white finish which is still very "white" and hasn't yellowed in any appreciable way. The hardware is otherwise completely intact and clean, with very nice chrome plating on the roller bridge and stop tailpiece. The knobs for these controls are intact but missing their chrome inserts on the tops. On the headstock, the original Guild stamped Schaller chrome tuning machines turn very smoothly, and on the face of the headstock has the "Guild" inlayed in pearloid along with the original "S300-D" truss rod cover.Īll of the electronics work as they should, and each pickup has individual volume and tone controls. The tone improvement is also quite noticeable through the pickups too. The 1 5/8" wide nut is hand carved from bone and improves the resonance and clarity of the acoustic tone of the instrument when compared to a stock plastic nut. Currently, the frets show only the faintest wear beneath the G and B in the first position, with virtually no wear up the neck and decades of life left. The ebony slab fingerboard boasts a full 24 frets with a 24 3/4" scale length and a professional refret with medium jumbo wire that's roughly as wide as the original frets, with a bit more height and crown for longer fret life and easier bending. Moderate depth at the nut and more chunk as you progress up the fretboard. The mahogany neck has a medium C profile that's extremely comfortable to play. The stock mini-toggle also provides a convenient phase switch for even more versatility and a far out phased out sound.Īt 7lbs 14oz, this is a well balanced, light and resonant instrument, with a well played-in feel and professional set-up. Combining the aforementioned tonal properties and taking full advantage of the set-neck and solid mahogany body's warmth. The middle position on the three-way toggle has a real "best of both worlds" tone. The "D" suffix iteration of this classic Guild solidbody boasts a pair of original Dimarzio pickups, with their version of the PAF in the neck position and a Super Distortion in the bridge, both with double cream bobbins! There's plenty of power and versatility between these two Dimarzio favorites, with the full-on raucous and punchy tone of the Super Distortion in the bridge and the warmer, harmonic rich neck position. Up for sale, a 1979 Guild S300-D in excellent, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. White, 100% Stock with Dimarzio Pickups and Original Hardcase. 1979 Guid S300-D Vintage Solidbody Electric Guitar.
